I live between Wallace and Highbury on 14th Avenue in Vancouver. For the last 15 years I have been feeding Chicadees from a small globe feeder whose sunflower feed I had to renew every 5 days at least. This year 2007 I filled the feeder in January and in April it was still hardly untouched by chicadees. Robins occasionaly fed there - but no CHICADEES>
Can anybody tell me what happened.

Chickadees are an irruptive bird. This means that they will stay in one area for a while and the move on.

I am in northern Ontario, 4 hours north of Toronto, and have never had chickadees stay through the winter....until this year. This year they are everywhere! So maybe they have moved on here from somewhere else.

I am at Arbutus and close to the shopping center there. I have a regular crew of Chickadees who visit constantly plus a Junco and a pair of finches. Nothing else.

We live in Welland Ontario, and I have had 8 chickadees for the past two winters at my feeder. I have enjoyed taking their pictures and just watching them from my kitchen window. I am a newbie at bird feeding, and I know that when the snow is melted my lawn will be a mess. Any ideas?
