We live in Regina and we had one of those bird feeders up all summer - the kind that is tubular with openings. We also had suet cakes up. I had to take them down at one point because there were so many birds, they ate the cake in three days.
Anyway, since the cold weather has come -- nothing! The cake is sitting there - frozen I guess and the bird feeder is kind of stuck. I think the seed is frozen in there and won't come out.
Can anyone suggest what kind of feeder we should get so the birds will come? There are lots of birds, they just shun our feeders now!

I think the answer to your question lies in your statement about the seed appearing to be stuck. If birds can't access your seed properly you need to shake the feeder once in a while so they can get to it. If the seed is caking-up or getting moldy from the snow, you need to replace it immediately. A tube feeder is perfectly fine, just use lots of black oil sunflower in it!
