Recycled Bird Feeders
Made from Poly Lumber
Why a poly lumber bird feeder?
Our major poly lumber products supplier, Birds Choice, the manufacturer of high quality bird feeders and bird houses, has saved over 3 million plastic containers from going into a landfill.
President Dan Bloedorn noted that previously bird feeders and bird houses had been mainly built out of wood, namely western inland cedar. With the price of cedar continually rising, it made sense to look at different raw materials to build the products. The poly-lumber, made out of ground-up recycled plastic containers and milk jugs, is colored and extruded into boards. Bloedorn said the beauty of these products is that the 5/8” thick poly-lumber is guaranteed to never crack, split or fade for 20 years. The smallest items use approximately 8 milk jugs, while the largest recycled product, the double decker hopper, uses approximately 87 milk jugs, in its construction. There is virtually no waste as any scrap generated from cutting out the parts is reground and made into more poly-lumber.
These bird-friendly products clean up beautifully and look like new, year after year in the backyards of thousand of Americans and Canadians. Birds Choice adds its exclusive patented removable seed trays, combined with stainless steel screws, aluminum rust-resistant hinges and thick heavy-duty acrylic panels to make the recycled products the best on the market.
