Squirrel Proof Bird Feeders

The good news is yes. Here's how.
Most squirrel-proof (or more correctly squirrel-resistent) bird feeders are either cage-based, weight based, or have an internal motor that propels the squirrel off the feeder.
My favorite weapon? Any of the Squirrel Buster series of bird feeders from Brome Bird Care of Quebec. There are currently four models. These feeders are weight-based. The seed portals (openings) will remain open for the birds but will close under the weight of a squirrel.

If you’re trying to keep larger birds such as Grackles away as well as squirrels, a caged-based feeder such as the Droll Yankee SDC is probably the way to go. It is essentially a tube feeder inside of a larger cage. Small birds such as chickadees, and finches are able to get through the cage while squirrels and larger birds are unable.
